MathIvy is a year-long Algebra I/II course that focuses on problem-solving and logic and is designed to provide
students with a deeper understanding of algebraic concepts. Students completing this course will have built
up the skills necessary to enter high school on a more advanced math track and other university-level courses.
Each new concept is reinforced with a series of problems of added complexity.
Student progress is strengthened through
a. homework assignments for every concept covered (3 days per week)
b. monthly quizzes / mini-test (on the last week of the month - results will be released to the parents on the
first class of the month)
c. cumulative final exam (end of the semester)
Students will be placed in appropriate groups based on their academic evaluation and subsequent progress.
They will be set on their learning paths and progress based on their comfort level.
Our online classroom allows for video, voice, and text interaction with instructors, as well as screen sharing and
whiteboard technology to make the experience engaging and personal to each student. As this is an
accelerated course, students are expected to put in 2-3 hrs per week of work outside the class.
Course Objectives
Through this program, students will master the foundational Algebra skills. The program also enables students
to acquire advanced algebraic skills to accelerate and test in/test out of high school. They will gain an
advantage to score high on the State and National standardized tests. The curriculum and detailed course
objectives are in the addendum.
